burger machine man.
I was feeling especially whiny last night and decided to have one (out of ten) of my patented comfort foods, Burger Machine’s Double Longganisa (that’s sausage) burger with egg.
As I proceeded to whine and dine, I noticed that the dude manning the stall was an unexpectedly cheerful fellow by the name of Anton. What was different about this guy was that not only did he say thank you every time I said thank you, he REALLY loved his job.
Well, I can’t really say that he loved it (far be it for me to know what his heart says) BUT he was smiling the entire time he did his job, no matter how menial the responsibility or the wage was. AND this was not the first time I’ve noticed Anton like this mind you, every time I’m at Burger Machine, he’s polite, neat, and FCKN amazing at his job (he gives a LOT of tissue not like, once piece to go with your burger).
And that’s when it dawned on me, he’s content. He lives a simple life, simple needs, and far simpler wants. Add that all up and you have one happy camper. I felt a bit of shame as I was paying for my burger (Double with egg yo) and decided to ask him a question: Why are you so happy? (yes I’m a bitter bitch)
He answered me in Filipino: “Why aren’t you?” and then he smiled and I wanted to hit him. (HAHAHAHA)
Kidding aside, he had a point. I looked around my world of blessing and I SHOULDN’T want more. I have all that I need. Funny, how I (we all) forget that most of the time.
With that, I walked home with my Pepsi, smiling and meaning it.
